What can we expect in EdTech 2022?

Written by Yura Vasilevitski | Mar 23, 2022 7:23:22 PM

The cloud has made possible many of the advances in EdTech that we have seen over the last few years and those that will come in the future. We're likely to see greater automation in the cloud, which will enable organizations to focus on their core strategic goals rather than on maintaining their data centers. Here are more trends to watch out for.

Newer capabilities for remote learning

The pandemic has forced educational institutes to adopt remote learning technologies with little or no time for preparation. This led to many teething problems like difficulty adapting the technology, poor internet connectivity, lack of proper tools for teachers and students, etc.

We can expect the coming years to address these issues by introducing more sophisticated technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). These technologies are already being widely adopted in other industries and are showing great promise in EdTech. VR will help create immersive experiences for students, while AR will help them with real-time data at their fingertips.

Greater adoption of the cloud

The popularity of online courses and online degree programs is likely to increase the need for cloud-based education services. According to the Education Cloud Market Forecast 2019-2024 report, the industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of almost 25% from 2019 to 2024. The growth will be driven by increased use of e-learning, adoption of analytics in education, and improved access to broadband internet across the globe.

Big data

Cloud computing can make it easier for schools to adopt new technology applications in the classrooms. Cloud computing offers schools a new way of providing learning materials, whether through interactive lessons or online homework assignments.

This provides access to data and information needed for better decision-making based on previous experience and trends. Data also plays an important role in understanding how students learn best and how they respond to different learning techniques.

Cloud automation

Cloud automation is expected to be the next big thing in tech in the coming years. It will enable a single system to manage various cloud-based services. Cloud automation will help simplify and streamline the deployment of workloads across multiple clouds and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of different processes. The number of educational institutes deploying cloud services is increasing, which has led to an increased demand for cloud automation services.

Zero trust cloud security

The number of threats targeting the public cloud has increased dramatically over the past few years. This is due mostly to how popular the public cloud has become in enterprise environments and because attackers are now going after big targets like AWS S3 buckets. Although there are many challenges to overcome regarding security on the public cloud (such as monitoring, patching, etc.), one solution that can help secure your data is zero trust security architecture.

Multicloud and hybrid cloud models

After most universities were forced to move their teaching and learning online due to COVID-19, they had no choice but to adopt cloud applications and infrastructure. There are lessons learned from this experience that will have a lasting impact on how the EdTech sector approaches cloud adoption.

For instance, there is an understanding that all cloud applications don't have to be hosted on the same model. Hence, we expect more educational institutions to look at a mix of public clouds (AWS/Azure/GCP), private clouds (VMware/OpenStack), and managed services.

Nano learning (micro-lessons that last 10 minutes)

Nano learning involves quick bursts of information and is designed for easy consumption on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. Nano learning allows people to learn without devoting long periods to educational activities.

The Internet of Things

In 2022, the internet of things will most likely be accessible to all schools. This is something that is already becoming popular in today's world, but it hasn't yet become a popular trend in the education world. The internet of things allows you to connect various devices over the internet for remote control and monitoring. Think about how easily you’ll be to manage your school if you had a device that could control your classroom from anywhere.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is one thing that we can expect to see incorporated into educational systems by 2022. Imagine having an artificial intelligence system that will create a personalized learning plan for each student based on their own personal abilities and knowledge level. It wasn't long ago that artificial intelligence was just something that was seen in the movies. Nowadays, it's becoming more of a reality in our everyday lives with products such as Siri and Alexa.

In a nutshell

In 2022 the EdTech market will continue to evolve, and we feel that the larger distinctions between Edtech and e-learning software will become even less defined over time. It will likely be an event-driven market, with vendors needing to keep up with constantly changing technology to remain relevant.
